VALUATION/CLAIMS PROCEDURES

FILING A CLAIM: CALL 1/800-537-3152 AND REQUEST THE CLAIM HOTLINE TO REQUEST A CLAIM FORM, FOLLOW THE PROMPTS (NAME, BILL OF LADING/REG#, COMPLETE ADDRESS, TELEPHONE, and DATE OF DELIVERY). FORMS WILL BE MAILED PROMPTLY FOR YOUR COMPLETION. THESE FORMS MUST BE COMPLETED IN DETAIL OR WILL BE RETURNED, IF RETURNED, NO ADDITIONAL ITEMS CAN BE LISTED AND THE TIME LINE BEGINS ALL OVER. A RETURNED ADDRESS ENVELOPE IS INCLUDED WITH YOUR CLAIM PACKAGE FOR RETURN. WHAT CONSTITUES A CLAIM IS ONE THAT IS FILED IN WRITING WITH A LIVE SIGNATURE FOR A SPECIFIED AMOUNT. LOCAL MOVES AND MOVES WITHIN THE STATE OF PA HAVE A REQUIREMENT TO FILE IN WRITING WITHIN (90) NINTY DAYS FROM DATE OF DELIVERY. INTERSATE MOVES (OUTSIDE OF THE STATE OF PA) HAVE A REQUIREMENT TO FILE IN WRITING WITHIN (9) NINE MONTHS FROM DATE OF DELIVERY. IF YOUR CLAIM FORM IS NOT RECEIVED WITHIN THE TIME FRAME PRESCRIBED, IT IS A BASIS FOR DENIAL. WE CANNOT ACCEPT CLAIMS VIA EMAIL AT THIS TIME ONLY VIA US POSTAL SERVICE.

COMPLETION OF FORM: COPY OF YOUR BILL OF LADING, PICTURES OF THE DAMAGED ITEMS (THESE DON’T HAVE TO BE PROFESSIONAL PICTURES, BUT THE ITEM MUST BE DISCERNABLE AND THE EXTENT OF THE DAMAGES APPARENT. TIP: PRINT OR COPY YOUR PICTURES OUT TO PAPER AND PUT YOUR NAME AND DESCRIPTION OF THE ITEMS UNDER THE PICTURES. IF YOU SEND PHOTOS PUT IT ON THE BACK OF THE PHOTOS WHICH THEY CANNOT BE RETURNED. DO NOT PROCEED WITH REPAIRS, AS YOU WILL DENY THE CARRIER OF THEIR RIGHT TO INSPECT. PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS ON THE FORM IN ORDER TO OBTAIN AN UPDATE OF THE STATUS OF YOUR CLAIM.

RECEIVING YOUR CLAIM: YOUR CLAIM MUST BE SENT VIA THE US POSTAL SERVICE. ONCE WE RECEIVE YOUR CLAIM IT IS ENTERED IN OUR COMPUTER DATABASE SYSTEM AND A FILE IS CREATED ASSIGNING A CLAIM NUMBER. WE CHECK THE SUBMITTED CLAIM FOR COMPLETENESS. A CLAIM IS NOT CONSIDERED SUBMITTED UNLESS ALL THE ELEMENTS CONSTITUTING A CLAIM ARE PRESENT. IF YOUR CLAIM IS NOT COMPLETE WE SEND YOU A NOTICE (VIA EMAIL OR MAIL) OF WHAT ITEMS ARE STILL NEEDED FOR YOUR CLAIM. YOUR FILE IS POSTED IN OUR COMPUTER SYSTEM AS PENDING UNTIL WE RECEIVE THE MISSING INFORMATION. IF YOUR INITIAL CLAIM FORM IS ACCEPTED, YOU WILL RECEIVE AN ACKNOWLEDGEMENT REFLECTING YOUR CLAIM NUMBER VIA EMAIL OR MAIL. YOUR COMPLETED RELOCATION FILE IS THEN PULLED AND THE PROCESS BEGINS.

STATUS OF FILED CLAIMS: PLEASE ALLOW AT LEAST (30) THIRTY DAYS IN WHICH TO INQUIRE OF STATUS PLEASE PROVIDE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS ON THE CLAIM FORM AND THE ACKNOWLEDGEMENT CAN BE SENT TO YOU IN THIS MANNER. WHEN INQUIRING PLEASE PROVIDE YOUR NAME, BILL OF LADING NUMBER AND CLAIM NUMBER.
THE MOVING COMPANY IS GENERALLY NOT LIABLE FOR DAMAGES TO GOODS THAT ARE PACKED BY THE OWNER (PBO/CU) CONTENTS UNKNOWN; SINCE THE MOVING COMPANY DID NOT PACK THE ARTICLES THEY CANNOT BE SURE THEY WERE PACKED SECURILY. NOR ARE THE RESPONSIBLE FOR INTERNAL MALFUNCTIONS, PRESSED WOOD ITEMS, SLEEP NUMBER BEDS. JEWELRY OR ITEMS OF EXTRAORDINARY VALUE UNLESS SPECIFIED.
VALUATION IS NOT INSURANCE! YOU’RE MOVING COMPANY CANNOT ISSUE YOU INSURANCE! THEY ARE HOWEVER OBLIGATED BY THEIR TARIFFS TO PROVIDE TWO VALUATION OPIONS.

  • REPLACEMENT VALUE WHICH ASKS THE SHIPPER TO SET A VALUATION N THEIR ENTIRE SHIPMENT (WHICH SOME HAVE DEDUCTIBLES).
  • LIMITED LIABILITY IS BASED ON $.60 PER POUND, PER ARTICLE WHICH IS DETERMINED FROM THE MILITARY/INDUSTRY TABLE OF WEIGHT GUIDE.

PROCESSING YOUR CLAIM: WE USE THE US POSTAL DATE STAMP TO DATE YOUR CLAIM START DATE. THE CLAIM THEN GOES TO OUR ADJUSTERS FOR REVIEW. THE ADJUSTERS LOOK AT YOUR CONTRACT TO SEE WHAT VALUATION YOU RELEASED YOUR SHIPMENT. ONCE THE ADJUSTER REVIEWS AND COMPARES IT TO THE REMARKS/EXCEPTIONS MADE BY YOU ON THE HOUSEHOLD GOODS INVENTORY OR BILL OF LADING (LOCAL MOVES GENERALLY DO NOT HAVE INVENTORIES) THEY COMPARE THIS LIST WITH THE PICTURES, INTERVIEW THE PERSONNEL AND LOOK FOR SUCH ITEMS AS EXTRAORDINARY VALUE WHICH IS A SEPARATE INVENTORY LIST AND MUST HAVE BEEN FILLED OUT PRIOR TO MOVING. ONCE THE ADJUSTER DETERMINES THE CLAIM SETTLEMENT AMOUNT A LETTER IS SENT OUT WITH A BREAKDOWN AND A SETTLEMENT CHECK, THE RELEASE IS STAMPED ON THE BACK OF YOUR SETTLEMENT CHECK.
